Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) is commonly
referred to as Realtime Captioning. The acronym, CART, distinguishes
this text-alone display from realtime captioning wherein text appears
with a video image, such as in closed-caption TV broadcasting. Realtime
Captioners/CART Providers write over 225 words per minute in phonetic
shorthand, translating the spoken word and environmental sounds
instantaneously into text which are displayed on portable wireless
tablets, computers, TV
monitors, and projection screens.
